HUGE. But it's helpful, sorta.
I made this like, 2 years ago -_-. There's a bit that's WRONG about it now too.
Actually not really. Most of this is still pretty legit, except the part about the FPS.
JUST SO YA KNO - Industry standard FPS is 24. ALWAYS (for 2D films) That, or 30. I suppose internet flashs don't really matter. You can have an animation at 1 FPS, or 80 FPS, or 8.24 FPS. People don't really care.
I figured I'd just post what I have since I'll never finish it. Look at me, back in the day, trying to be helpful, when I still had no idea what art was...
I'm gonna be honest, it's not really that important to plot every damn 8th note, if your animation DEPENDS on it, then go for it - but timing everything to the measure ends up working well too. Quarter note if the intent is to be bumpin!
We recently had a song that was 150 BPM. Most of our scenes were timed to the measure, or two measures if it's a particularly long scene.
150 BPM / 60 = 2.5 BPS.
24 FPS / 2.5 BPS = 9.6 FPB
9.6 Frames per beat! 38.4 frames per measure. Each scene was roughly 39 frames... Scene change every 40th frame, as well as an accent in action on every 20th frame would do nicely.
